Manufacture and design of Shell pylon
Since 2017, VDS is an accredited manufacturer of RVI structures for SHELL. In June 2020, an order for the production and installation of the first 25-meter image pylon in the SHELL filling station network in Russia was received.
Production of the SHELL Image Pylon
The stele itself is made of 2 parts with a pipe diameter of more than 100 centimeters. The upper part includes space with the SHELL logo sign.
The painting of the image pylon is carried out on an automated line at the plant. The frame of the pylon provides for the structural elements for the installation and maintenance, electrical wiring, and an electrical panel for logo illumination.
VDS Design Competence
The supporting frame of the advertising part of the SHELL pylon is a spatial structure consisting of 2 modules of the transport dimension. The integration of these modules into a single structure is implemented on the construction site with high-strength bolts connections.
An aluminum reflector with a sheet, following the reverse-moulding method with the use of thermoformable ink, is placed on the spatial frame. This approach assures SHELL filling stations premium look during daytime and nighttime.
Modernization of the SHELL Image Pylon
The design team has modified the existing design to upgrade the connections. The joint flange connection on the assembly welding was replaced with a connection on high-strength bolts to simplify and speed up the installation, as well as eliminate the need for weld inspection.
Technical Characteristics
The SHELL image pylon with a height of 25 meters is made of prefabricated assembly elements with an enlarged assembly at the installation site. First of all, VDS specialists improved the strength characteristics of the pylon, ensuring the product's resistance to external factors: wind loads and vibration effects during transportation. The stability of the pylon is guaranteed by a rigid connection to the foundation with the possibility of adjustment and repeated removal and installation.
